RIFKIN’S FESTIVAL Confirmed As Title For Woody Allen’s 2020 Film

Following on from yesterday’s news that Spanish entertainment company Mediapro are likely to extend their working relationship with Allen, Deadline reports that Mediapro has also expanded their sales duties for Allen’s upcoming 2020 film. Amongst the new report is the confirmation of the film’s title as Rikin’s Festival. Deadline broke the news.

They also offered a new synopsis for the film.

It tells the story of a married American couple who go to the San Sebastián Film Festival. They get caught up in the magic of the festival, the beauty and charm of Spain and the fantasy of movies. She has an affair with a brilliant French movie director, and he falls in love with a beautiful Spanish woman who lives there.

Fantasy and magic seems to be mentioned a lot. It seems that there is more than meets the eye with this film, although that is pure speculation on our part.

Deadline reconfirms the cast as Elena Anaya, Louis Garrel, Gina Gershon, Sergi López, Wallace Shawn and Christoph Waltz. So no one has been cut out in the edit. Yet.

The news comes as Mediapro look to sell the rights to the film at the European Film Market, one of the Europe’s big film business conferences, that begins on 20th February 2020 in Berlin.

Allen’s films are usually released by a variety of independent and indie-focussed distributors around Europe and the world. We can expect the film to start rolling out around July or August. Although Allen might wait until the San Sebastián Film Festival itself, which starts 18th September 2020. Either way, we are still probably a couple of months away from posters and trailers.
