Café Society, the newest film written and directed by Woody Allen, just premiered at the 69th Cannes Film Festival. And twitter are weighing in with the verdict almost immediately. The first reactions are very positive.
Let’s start with UK critic Robbie Collins, one of our favourite critics and second bassoonists.
Also contains the most gorgeroonie shot in a Woody Allen film (K-Stew and J-Berg in Central Park at dawn) in yeeeeears. #Cannes2016

Reviews have singled out Jesse Eisenberg, Kristen Stewart and cinematographer Vittorio Storaro.
#CafeSociety: Wonderful Woody delivers a witty romantic masterpiece. Kristen Stewart glows and Eisenberg mesmerises. 5 stars #Cannes2016

CAFE SOCIETY is amusing, warm & sweet. Storaro’s dreamlike cinematography is glorious & Kristen Stewart is captivating. #Cannes2016

Café Society is Woody’s best in recent years. Exquisite production design, top K-Stew performance, very strong festival opener #Cannes2016

Woody Allen's Café Society is a sun-kissed, breezy ride on love's carousel, set in Golden Age Hollywood. Hugely enjoyable #Cannes2016

Broken hearts, murderous gangsters in the breezy, bittersweet #Cannes2016 opener #CafeSociety. #KristenStewart has never looked lovelier. AH

"Cafe Society" is certainly one of the handsomest, eye-friendly Woody flicks ever. Credit Vittorio Storaro for most of this effect.

Although, some reviews were mixed.
#Cannes2016 Cafe Society bests Woody’s last fest-opener but Storaro’s camera can’t hide leaden narration or lack of emotional clout & laughs

Cafe Society is leagues better than Woody Allen's last two misfires. Still a meh for me, though the style on display is divine. #Cannes2016
— Nigel M. Smith (@nigelmfs) May 11, 2016
Cafe Society a decent, rambling #Cannes2016 opener. Eisenberg, Stewart good as American dreamers; Woody Allen risks nodding off at the wheel
— Xan Brooks (@XanBrooks) May 11, 2016
CAFE SOCIETY: Woody Allen in semi-ambitious bauble mode. Themes you've seen a million times from him, but still modestly charming. #Cannes

The interview is behind the paywall.
I adore Woody’s genius, and can’t wait to see his new movie!
