WONDER WHEEL US Release Is December 2017

Despite reports of September, it looks like we have a solid, reported release date for Wonder Wheel, the upcoming film written and directed by Woody Allen. His 47th film will be released on 1st December 2017 through Amazon Studios. Variety broke the story.
It is later than Allen’s usual mid year release, something he has essentially held for 10 years. 2007’s Cassandra’s Dream was released in January (or dumped there), and you have to go back to 2005’s Match Point for an Allen December release.

December is the time for awards season films, and it will be a competitive time if year. Amazon – who are awards obsessed – are surely hoping to pick up some honours for the film.

Will Europe or other countries release the film before the US? It’s not impossible, but it seems unlikely as Amazon holds the purse strings. What is more than likely is Allen will start production on a 2018 film before Wonder Wheel is released.

Wonder Wheel is a drama that stars Jim Belushi, Juno Temple, Justin Timberlake and Kate Winslet. It is set on Coney Island, home of the Wonder Wheel ride, and set in the 1950s.
