Last time we checked in with Irrational Man, the latest film written and directed by Woody Allen, it had hit $22 million. It’s moved up a bit since to $24 million, but it also looks like it has stopped.
Irrational Man has now earned $24,896,319 worldwide. France is number one ($6.3m), followed by the US ($4.0m), Italy ($3.5m), Spain ($2.5m) and Germany ($1.3m). The big movement was in Italy. Despite opening against Star Wars: The Force Awakens, it has crawled back a decent audience in the weeks that followed.
With the film now out on DVD and other home formats, and no more markets in which to open, it should stay around this mark and fall short of $25 million.
Overall, this is Allen’s least performing film since 2007’s Cassandra’s Dream ($22.7m).
And that’s about it. On with the 2016 film!

I can’t understand why this film never really caught on. I’ve pretty much had it on permanent rotation on my bluray player since the day it came out. A great story, beautifully shot, with a solid cast doing solid work! Whats not to love about this picture? My only complaint about the movie is that I would have loved for Woody to have written a couple of more scenes with the incredible Kate McGonigle who played Jill’s horseback riding friend Ellie. Whatta knockout!!! Her scenes were pretty elementary and straight forward, but she seemed to have some decent acting chops. Maybe when Woody’s Amazon series is released it’ll give this project a little spark in the home market. It’s like the scene in Irrational Man where Abe tells his students to get ready for John Paul Sartes “Hell is other people!!!” I feel like in the case “Hell is other moviegoers” – who cant understand the greatness of this film!!!!
GO WOODY!!!
