CASSANDRA’S DREAM Filming Locations – London, Brighton, Hoo, UK

Cassandra’s Dream is Allen’s third film in the United Kingdom, and perhaps that familiarity allowed Allen to avoid the tourist landmarks. With more street level characters, it makes sense that Allen looked to less expensive parts of London than his other films. No doubt Allen looked to British kitchen sink dramas and the work of directors like Mike Leigh (several of Leigh’s regular actors appear in the film).

Allen also travelled outside of London to locations in Hoo and Brighton and more. Although a big set piece in Brighton ended up being too expensive to film. Although by Allen standards, there was quite a bit of travel for this film.

Here are the filming locations for Cassandra’s Dream. As usual, some unknown locations at the end.

  1. This is another great post. The time and effort that it takes to research these locales and put a post like this together must be exhausting. Much thanks!!! Cassandra’s Dream is really a fine film. In my Woody compendium, I have it ranked third (tied with September) just behind Interiors and Match Point for Woody’s “serious” films. Admittedly, when I originally saw it in the theater, I was left disappointed. It wasn’t till I bought the DVD and got it home so that I could really take it in, that I truly understood the meaning of this picture. To me, it seems like a plausible story. You could and probably have seen a story like this on the evening news. Insecurity and desperation can make people do heinous things.

    GO WOODY!!!!

  2. I like it more every time. Especially Colin Farrell, after seeing the Lobster, I understand his schlubby, loser performance in the second half.
