Trailer For Woody Allen’s Irrational Man With Joaquin Phoenix, Emma Stone

Today, Sony Pictures Classics has released the trailer to Irrational Man, the new film written and directed by Woody Allen and starring Joaquin Phoenix, Emma Stone and Parker Posey. Entertainment Weekly has the exclusive, and they also have a new photo (above).

Lots of information to digest. Jamie Blackley gets top billing, but it is otherwise a very small cast for an Allen film. Posey is another love interest for Abe (Phoenix). Much like the Midnight In Paris trailer, there seems to be some very big story points that are being hidden. Rhode Island looks nice, doesn’t it?

The trailer certainly gets across that there is something odd going on with Phoenix, and more than meets the eye.

EW also talked to Posey, and looks like Allen was up to his old tricks in terms of keeping actors in the dark.

I had no idea how I fit in or how the other characters thought of me.

On Phoenix.

He’s very in-the-moment, so I really enjoyed being in the water with him creatively.

On finding out about the role.

Woody said, “We’re doing a movie this summer.’ I said, ‘I know. I saw it in the paper, with Joaquin Phoenix. He’s so incredible.’

Posey also spoke to People.

I don’t know if I can even tell you my thoughts about it without revealing things. It’s amazing for Woody to have made so many movies and still surprise audiences. He’s a maestro. He’s amazing.

We will do our usual trailer analysis very soon, but it looks like Allen is keeping a little coy about this one, and so shall we.

Irrational Man‘ will debut at Cannes Film Festival next month, and released in the US on 17th July 2015.
