VOTW: Woody Allen’s Only Appearance At the Oscars

The Oscars were the big film news this week. Yet, Allen’s famous for declining the Academy’s invitation every year – but one. In the first Academy Awards after 9/11, Allen got in his tux and took to the stage – and did a short set of stand-up before introducing a Norah Ephron created tribute to New York on film.

That film – ‘Love Letter To New York In Movies‘, opens with Allen’s classic Manhattan, and features a couple of clips from Annie Hall. It’s a tender tribute to possibly the best film city of all time.

Allen’s Oscars no-show was featured in Business Week, but it mainly takes from a wonderful NPR story, where they speak to Allen biographer Eric Lax.
